El Congreso de los periodistas cubanos desde mi punto de vista

Mayabeque, Cuba - Nadie me lo dijo, tampoco lo vi en la televisión o lo escuché en la radio, yo estaba allí, en el Palacio de las Convenciones de la capital cubana, donde se realizó el Noveno Congreso de la Unión de Periodistas de Cuba (UPEC).

Ya tenía la experiencia de la octava cita, hace cinco años, y como otros que también estuvieron en aquella ocasión, pude apreciar las diferencias entre uno y otro evento, aunque a decir de algunos delegados, y coincido, los problemas que ahora suscitaron el debate fueron los mismos, solo que esta vez existió una clara definición para que estos acuerdos sean chequeados de forma sistemática por el Comité Nacional de la UPEC, tal y como se dijeron, sin hipérboles agresivas o protectoras, pero sí aferrados a la más estricta verdad, verdad que llegó como instantánea de la historia de vida de los periodistas cubanos.

No puede existir un periodismo consecuente sin el respaldo claro y preciso de las fuentes de información. El secretismo, el rechazo a labor periodística, el temor a la crítica, el irrespeto a al RSB del Buró Político del Comité Central del Partido relativo a la eficacia informativa. Los dirigentes a cualquier nivel deben conocerse de memoria lo que está estipulado en estos menesteres y ver en los profesionales de la prensa a aliados que reconocen públicamente los logros o que resulven un problema determinado, muchas veces ignorado o insoluble para el Consejo de Dirección de una u otra entidad.

Del otro lado los periodistas. Están aquellos que se buscan una y otra vez problemas porque cumpliendo a cabalidad con sus funciones se convierten en colimadores de decisiones políticas y gubernamentales que amparan lo mal hecho, pero no se amilanan y siguen porque les ampara la razón. Otros han decidido replegarse, permanecer varados en el tiempo, como simples observadores-escritores que acuden a la autocensura, y eso, hace mucho más daño a la prensa que hoy hacemos.

Aquellos y otros, que no son todos, y dentro de todos una buena parte, ameritan plantar bien los pies sobre la tierra porque la historia que hoy protagonizan los cubanos es de profundos cambios económicos y sociales que tienen como objetivo salvaguardar las conquistas de la Revolución. Por eso se abren caminos tan necesarios como imprescindibles en la actividad productiva y de los servicios, sorteando las genocidas acciones del gobierno de los Estados Unidos, sustentadas en el bloqueo económico y financiero.

¿Qué implica este panorama para los periodistas cubanos?... mayor preparación y conocimiento, adentrarse en las raíces que sustentan los lineamientos económicos y los objetivos de la Primera Conferencia del Partido, investigar, profundizar, echar a un lado la endeblez , lo superfluo y banal, la información fría, esa que no dice nada. Implica también rescatar la creatividad, aprovechar los recursos de cada medio de comunicación.

En la radio puede que se esté transmitiendo la noticia del año, pero si el oyente no percibe las imágenes estamos desaprovechando esa magia propia del medio, si en la televisión no logramos armonizar de forma inteligente y atrayente, imagen, voz y sonido se pierde ese encanto que atrapa al receptor frente a la pantalla, si en nuestro periódico no se aprovechan al máximo las bondades que aporta el periodismo escrito, si no somos capaces de adherir a los lectores a los textos, si dejamos a la vera del camino la redacción fluida y seductora, si las fotos que usamos no confirman la historia que narramos, muy pocos aprovecharán las grandes ventajas de este medio, volverlo a leer una y otra vez, guardarlo en lugar propio para cuando lo necesitemos, una suerte de máquina del tiempo que nos permite ir al pasado y regresar.

Yo diría que no solo es preciso, sino urgente, que nos dejemos llevar por los recursos que hacen de nuestros medios uno solo por los objetivos y diferentes por las cualidades y sortilegios que poseen. Nos enfrentamos a la competencia que significan las fuentes alternativas, proveedoras de productos foráneos hechos con alta tecnología, llamativos, seudoculturales muchas veces, pero con seguidores, portadoras de costumbres, tradiciones e idiosincrasias ajenas, que penetran en la conciencia de los consumidores. Contrarrestar esa realidad significa construir agendas mediáticas más atemperadas a nuestra realidad, donde se le de curso a las orientaciones que llegan desde el Partido, el gobierno, el Instituto Cubano de Radio y Televisión (ICRT), pero donde hay que tener en cuenta, necesariamente, los intereses de los periodistas y del pueblo: televidentes, radioyentes y lectores no pueden continuar al margen de los diseños editoriales y los planes temáticos.

El Noveno Congreso de los periodistas cubanos también fue una cita para hablar de las necesidades materiales del sector. Lograr un periodismo instantáneo, término que va más allá de lo inmediato, implica tecnologías y medios que están lejos de nuestro alcance por las razones económicas sabidas. Se han hecho esfuerzos importantes que han dotado a los medios, fundamentalmente a la radio y la televisión de cámaras, grabadoras, baterías y otros soportes técnicos que facilitan un mejor trabajo, pero lejos todavía de las necesidades reales.

De esta manera quizás no logremos lo instantáneo, pero sí lo inmediato, como hasta ahora, pero con mayor sagacidad y tino periodístico. Y hablo de sagacidad y tino periodístico porque como quedó bien claro en el Congreso, no podemos seguir esperando que fuentes alterativas o oficiales extranjeras difundan primero que nosotros lo que acontece en el país. El incendio en la gasolinera de Santiago de Cuba, la inundación en el Poblado de Vegas, los casos de cólera y otros hechos de trascendencia, no pueden seguir acuñados con el sello de lo prohibido para dar paso a notas oficiales que más que informar, desinforman.

El tema de los bajos salarios que reciben los periodistas cubanos estuvo presente en varias intervenciones e implícita de manera indirecta en otras. El personal de prensa sigue siendo el de más bajo salario en los medios de comunicación, con mayor incidencia en la Radio y la Televisión, una realidad que contradice la importancia sector en la defensa de nuestra sociedad, de los valores y convicciones, se trata de un gremio que siempre ha estado al lado de la Revolución, pero que poco a poco se va deprimiendo ante la salida definitiva de personal hacia otros actividades mejor remuneradas. De momento el país no puede asumir gastos de esa naturaleza.

Existen otros sectores que también ameritan de incrementos salariales y se realizan acciones que tienen como principal finalidad poner fin a la doble circulación monetaria, dijo el miembro del Buró Político y Primer Vicepresidente de los Consejos de Estado y de Ministros, Miguel Díaz Canel, quien añadió además que la economía cubana muestra signos de fortalecimiento, pero habrá que esperar que se consolide en tanto circule un solo tipo de dinero.

Por eso decía que el Noveno Congreso de los Periodistas Cubanos se caracterizó por la claridad en los criterios, porque los problemas se plantearon sin vendas ni ambages, quizás algunos de ellos se reiteraron en comparación con otras citas, pero ahora se fue límpido en los argumentos, escabrosos quizás en años anteriores, en tanto también se abordaron aspectos nuevos y trascendentes vinculados al funcionamiento eficiente del sector de prensa. Ya están definidas las líneas de trabajo de la UPEC hasta el 2018, son portadoras de los anhelos de la membrecía y cuentan con una definición precisa de lo que se debe hacer para dar seguimiento a todos los planteamientos que se hicieron en el Congreso y dar continuidad a un periodismo que su mayor pasión sea la verdad.
