Estación Terrena Caribe, mirador y enlace de Cuba con el mundo

Para llegar al Centro de Telecomunicaciones Internacionales (Estación Terrena Caribe), ubicado en el Parque Escaleras de Jaruco, en la actual provincia de Mayabeque y distante unos 35 kilómetros al noreste de la capital cubana,  es necesario transitar una estrecha y serpenteante carretera que por momentos te obliga a mirar  hacia los grandes barrancos a ambos lados del trayecto.

Entre pequeños mogotes de exhuberante vegetación, surge de pronto a la vista del viajero, un espacio despejado en el centro donde se yergue la única Estación Satelital de su tipo en Cuba, una instalación compuesta de costosos y sensibles equipos, entre ellos grandes parábolas, que intervienen en las operaciones de transmisión y recepción de señales telefónicas y de televisión.

La Estación Terrena Caribe surgió en 1973, resultado del intercambio con la otrora Unión de Repúblicas Socialistas Soviéticas. Su primer servicio fue en ocasión del acto conmemorativo de la Revolución de Octubre, el 7 de noviembre de ese año, con sede en la Plaza Roja de Moscú.

 En 1975 se introdujeron nuevos equipos para ampliar el servicio por el Sistema Intersputnik y en 1979 se inicia el uso de los satélites estacionarios, así como el montaje de una estación Standard B del Sistema Intersalt, que facilitó la transmisión de la VI Cumbre de Países No Alineados, celebrada en La Habana.

Pero como en todos los sectores de la sociedad cubana, El Centro de Telecomunicaciones Internacionales, de Jaruco, cuya importancia es la comunicación telefónica y televisiva, no escapa al Bloqueo Económico y Financiero impuesto a Cuba por el gobierno de los Estados Unidos, obstaculizando la adquisición en USA y otros países de las piezas y equipos vitales en el trasiego satelital.

Sin embargo, por ser un sector estratégico para las comunicaciones del país, se ha desarrollado un movimiento de innovadores y racionalizadores que ha realizado aportes importantes que mantienen el funcionamiento de la estación.

Earth Station Caribbean Cuba viewpoint and link with the world

To reach the Center on International Telecommunications (Caribbean Ground Station), located in the Park Jaruco stairs, in the present province of Mayabeque and distant about 35 miles east of the Cuban capital, you need to navigate a narrow, winding road that at times forces you to look to the great ravines on both sides of the path.

Among small hummocks of lush vegetation, arises suddenly in sight of the traveler, a clear space in the middle where stands the only Satellite station of its kind in Cuba, an installation made of expensive and sensitive equipment, including great parables, that operations involved in transmission and reception of TV and telephone signals.

The Caribbean Ground Station came in 1973, a result of the exchange with the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. His first service was on the occasion of the commemoration of the October Revolution on 7 November of that year, based on the Red Square in Moscow.

 In 1975 he introduced new equipment to expand the service for Intersputnik system and in 1979 began using stationary satellites, as well as mounting a Standard B station Intersalt System, which facilitated the transmission of the Sixth Summit of the Non- Aligned Countries, held at Havana.

But as in all sectors of Cuban society, The International Telecommunications Centre of Jaruco, whose importance is telephone communication and television, does not escape the Economic and Financial Blockade imposed on Cuba by the U.S. government, hampering the acquisition in the U.S. and other countries vital parts and equipment in the satellite racking.

However, for being a strategic sector for the country's communications, we have developed a innovative and rationalizing movement has made significant contributions that keep the station operating.
