High diving en Cuba: Vuelo, nervios, ¡atracción! (Ver fotos)

Realizar un clavado desde 27 o 20 metros de altura, impactar el agua a más de 100 kilómetros por hora, sentir esa sensación de vuelo, estar suspendido en el aire por un lapso de tres segundos. Eso y más experimentan los llamados high divers, (clavadistas extremos), una modalidad en extremo atractiva, diseminada por el mundo desde el 2009 y que, en abril del 2014, para beneplácito de muchos, tendrá una fase de su Serie Mundial en el Castillo de los tres Reyes del Morro, acá en La Habana.

 Parece cosa sencilla, pero al decir de Rolando Ruiz Pedreguera, Comisionado Nacional de clavados y uno de los mejores ornamentalistas del mundo a finales de la década de los 70 del pasado siglo, es en extremo complejo: “Yo únicamente llegué hasta la plataforma de diez metros, si me decían que debía saltar un centímetro más arriba, renunciaba.

 Justamente a esa altura, cinco y 15 metros, montan sus saltos los exponentes del high diving, con la diferencia de que su entrada al agua es en posición de pie, de otra forma creo no sería posible incursionar en la modalidad. Desde esa altura y con la velocidad que se desarrolla, el impacto de cabeza con la superficie del agua sería mortal”, explicó.

 Lo cierto es que hasta ahora no ha habido accidentes fatídicos en cuatro ediciones de la Serie Mundial, incluso ni siquiera cuando el suizo Oliver Favre (saltó desde 54 metros el 30 de agosto de 1987 en Francia) y la estadounidense Lucy Wardle (hizo otro tanto desde 37 el 7 de abril de 1985 en el Ocean Park de Hong Kong) se establecieron como los humanos recordistas en lanzarse al agua desde las alturas.

Por si fuera poco, su inserción como disciplina oficial en la XV edición de los Campeonatos Mundiales de Deportes Acuáticos, en Barcelona, presagia un futuro promisorio y plagado de emociones para una disciplina que cada día gana más adeptos, diseminada por la geografía de 22 naciones, aquellas que en algún momento han atestiguado una parada del circuito.

 En Barcelona los honores correspondieron al colombiano Orlando Duque (acumuló 590.20 puntos tras cinco rondas de saltos), y la estadounidense Cesilie Carlton (211.60 unidades luego de tres vueltas).

 El propio Duque, a pesar de sus 38 años, es uno de los clavadistas extremos más emblemáticos del universo, pues atesora el título en la edición pionera de la Serie Mundial (2009) y los subcampeonatos del 2010 y 2012. Solo el fuera de serie británico Gary Hunt, capaz de eslabonar una cadena de títulos ininterrumpida desde el 2010 y puntero en la actual campaña con 650 rayas, le antecede.

OH LA HABANA, QUE LINDA ES MI HABANA…

La Habana es una ciudad llena de misticismo, con un aura incalculable, refugio fiel de grandes personalidades y sucesos. Siempre lista para que el más despersonalizado y carente de inspiración le arranque una historia de sus faldas.

 Recientemente vivimos la presencia acá del piloto escocés de la Fórmula-1 David Coulthard, nada más y nada menos que manejando un Pontiac de 1955, regido por las leyes de nuestro código del tránsito, y degustando el IX Rally de Regularidad-Copa Castrol organizado por la escudería de autos clásicos A lo Cubano.

 Por esas coincidencias de la vida Coulthard terminó su carrera como miembro de la escudería Red Bull, y justamente la bebida energizante de los toros rojos es la entidad que patrocina la Serie Mundial de High Diving.

 El interés y romance entonces tendría que consumarse, luego de dar las autoridades deportivas cubanas el visto bueno y realizar la Red Bull el estudio del área de competencias. Es bueno que todos conozcan que se trata de la estricta medición de la profundidad en el área en cuestión, (más de cinco metros), las inmediaciones y la altura del peñón saliente. En el caso del Morro, consta de 20 metros, por lo que habría que construir una plataforma de siete metros de altura y ocho aproximadamente salientes en dirección al mar, para evitar ningún riesgo de choque o accidente con los arrecifes.

Con todo este engranaje montado, tendremos la posibilidad de ver a los 12 o 14 mejores high divers del orbe, —debidamente escogidos por los directivos de la modalidad—, ejecutando sus mortales y giros en el malecón capitalino.

 En este minuto la incertidumbre ronda alrededor de si en definitiva Red Bull decide patrocinar al otrora clavadista, retirado este año de nuestro equipo nacional Yurisbel Caignet, hasta ahora el único exponente con que contaríamos. Suceda o no, la lid se presagia en extremo atractiva, segunda manga de un certamen diseminado por 10 enclaves, algunos exóticos como en México, Estados Unidos, Australia, Brasil y Hawai.

 Por lo intrépidos y emprendedores que somos nosotros los cubanos, nadie dude de que en un futuro no muy lejano contaremos con exponentes de calidad en esta discipina extrema, sobre todo si se tiene en cuenta que la mayoría de los monstruos “voladores”, transitaron sin muchas glorias en el clavados convencional y hasta hay otros que nunca lo practicaron.

 Por ahora, y hasta abril del año próximo dibujemos el panorama en el malecón habanero, miles de espectadores, adrenalina a chorros, vuelo, ¡atracción!
