Acerca de los cubanos en EE.UU.

Miami.-  De acuerdo a los más recientes estimados demográficos resultado del Censo del 2010, el número de cubanos y sus descendientes nacidos en Estados Unidos que viven en este país se considera ser 1.8 millones.  De éstos 1,044,000 (58%) son nacidos en Cuba y 756,000 (42%) son nacidos en
este país.  Representan el 3.6% del total de los latinoamericanos y sus descendientes que residen en EE.UU.

Los censos nacionales son aproximaciones las cuales son afectadas por un sinnúmero de factores, subjetivos y objetivos.  Recientemente leí  en un artículo sobre un estudio de poblaciones la siguiente afirmación introductoria del estudio, ¨las estadísticas son un espejismo organizado¨. Así hay que considerarlas.  Las cifras citadas en este trabajo han sido tomadas de informes y estudios del Buró del Censo de Estados Unidos y del Pew Hispanic Center, institución altamente respetada.

En 2012 la población latinoamericana y sus descendientes que residen en EE.UU. se consideraba ser de 53 millones de personas de un total de 311 millones de personas residentes en este país.  Los primeros cinco grupos nacionales latinoamericanos por sus números son: los mexicanos quienes
sumaban 34 millones (65%); los puertorriqueños, 5 millones (9.5%); los salvadoreños, 1.950,000 (3.8%) y los cubanos 1.8 millones (3.6%).

Se estima que el 70% (1.2 millones) de todos los cubanos y nuestros descendientes que vivimos en Estados Unidos vivimos en el estado de la Florida, cuya población en 2012 era de 19 millones de personas. El 75% de los cubanos que vivimos en la Florida vivimos en el condado Miami-Dade. En
cada uno de los estados de Nueva Jersey, Nueva York y California viven alrededor de entre 80 a 90 mil de nosotros.  Le sigue Texas con alrededor de los 50 y pico mil.  Entre los años 2000 a 2010 el crecimiento anual de la inmigración cubana se estimó ser de 17,300 personas. Nada ha cambiado
desde entonces para hacer disminuir esta cifra.

La edad promedio de los cubanos y nuestros descendientes es de 40 años; la del resto de los otros latinoamericanos y sus descendientes es de 27 años; y la de la población general en el país es de 37 años. El 25% de los cubanos y nuestros descendientes en este país han obtenido una licenciatura
universitaria; comparados con el 13% de todos los latinoamericanos que la han obtenido, y con el 29% de la población general que la ha podido obtener.

De acuerdo al más reciente estudio sobre estos asuntos, el del Buró del Censo con fecha de 2011, el salario promedio anual de la población cubana fue de $24,400; el del resto de los latinoamericanos fue de $20 mil, y el de la población general fue de $29 mil.  El 19% de los cubanos vivían bajo
el nivel de pobreza, comparados con el 26% de los demás latinoamericanos, y el 16% de la población general.

De acuerdo a la State of Florida Division of Elections (División de Elecciones del Estado de la Florida) 1.6 millones de latinoamericanos y sus descendientes estuvieron inscritos para votar en este Estado para las
elecciones generales de 2012. Eran el 13.9% de los 11.9 millones de personas inscritas para votar en la Florida. El 32% de todos los latinoamericanos inscritos para votar eran cubanos y sus descendientes,
mientras el 28% eran puertorriqueños. Se estima que el 60% de los cubanos, nacidos en Cuba, que viven en EE.UU. son ciudadanos de este país. El porciento de éstos que llegaron a EE.UU. antes de 1980 y que son ciudadanos estadounidenses alcanza el 90%; mientras que al porciento entre los que han
llegado posteriormente y son ciudadanos estadounidenses es mucho más bajo.

Un estudio del Pew Research Center (Centro de Investigación Pew) de 2013, portento de significantes cambios, mantiene que el 47% de los ciudadanos de origen cubano inscritos para votar favorecían al partido Republicano (comparado con el 64% en 2003), y en esa misma fecha, el 44% de los cubanos
inscritos para votar favorecían al partido Demócrata.  Este estudio también mantiene que entre los cubanos inscritos para votar entre las edades de 18 a 49 años, el 56% favorecían al partido demócrata; mientras aquellos mayores de 50 años, sólo el 39% favorecían a este Partido.

El porciento de los cubanos y sus descendientes que votaron en las elecciones presidenciales de 2012 fue del 67%, comparado con el 48% del resto de los latinoamericanos que votaron. El  porciento de la votación a nivel nacional fue de 58.2%.  En la Florida el 49% de los cubanos y sus descendientes votaron por el presidente Obama y el 47% votó por el candidato republicano, Mitt Romney.

Recently I read in a article on a study of populations the following statement introductory study, statistics are an organized mirage. Thus they should be seen. The figures quoted in this paper have been reports and studies taken from the Census Bureau and the United States Pew Hispanic Center, a highly respected institution.

 In 2012 the Latin American population and their descendants living in USA was considered to be 53 million people from a total of 311 million people living in this country.
