Cuba se corona monarca de World Baseball Challenge-2013

Cuba, representada por el club Tigres de Ciego de Ávila, se coronó campeón del World Baseball Challenge-2013, al noquear en la final 14-4 al conjunto japonés JX-Eneos de Yokohama.

Dirigidos por el mentor Roger Machado, los Tigres, campeones de Cuba en 2011, fueron amos y señores del torneo desde el mismo comienzo, amparados fundamentalmente en una prolífera producción ofensiva de 65 carreras en siete partidos.

En el desafío por el título, los caribeños se soltaron a batear. En total dispararon 16 hits y facturaron 14 carreras, seis de ellas en el enorme rally del cuarto inning, a la postre determinante.

Otro cubano, el patrullero central Yoelvis Fiss finalizó como líder en cuadrangulares, con tres, tras el conectado hoy en el choque ante Japón, que decretó el fuera de combate en ocho entradas.

Fiss también comandó a los máximos impulsores con 11 y fue tercero en porcentaje ofensivo con .467.

La victoria en el choque por el cetro correspondió al derecho Yander Guevara, también integrante del Cuba al III Clásico, mientras el zurdo Motoshi Oshiro cargó con el revés por el conjunto JX Eneos, campeón de la Liga Industrial Interciudades de Japón (con carácter amateur).

Guevara trabajó los ocho capítulos que duró el desafío, con siete hits permitidos (tres dobles y dos jonrones), ocho ponches propinados, cero boletos regalados y cuatro carreras admitidas -todas limpias-.

Esta fue la segunda victoria para el astro de los Tigres, único lanzador del torneo con dos triunfos a su haber.

Finalmente, Cuba consiguió el título de este III World Baseball Challenge con seis victorias en siete salidas. Su único revés, 4-6, ocurrió en un partido ante Taiwán.

Con este desempeño, la novena de Roger Machado sobrepasó las expectativas y logró revalidar la corona para Cuba, lograda hace dos años en la segunda edición de esta lid, con asiento en el Citizen Field de Prince George, en la Columbia Británica, la provincia más Occidental de Canadá, situada en la costa del Pacífico.

Desde ya quedó abierta la convocatoria para la cuarta parada de este torneo, prevista para 2015 en el mismo escenario, un lugar donde se respira béisbol.
