El presidente colombiano, Juan Manuel Santos, asistió hoy a la presentación de la Misa Cubana a la Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, del compositor José María Vitier, en un concierto memorable en la Catedral Primada de Bogotá.

Programado por iniciativa del cardenal Rubén Salazar, máximo jerarca de la Iglesia católica en Colombia, la Catedral fue un un escenario idóneo para el cierre del Festival de Música Sacra, concluido hoy y consagrado al poder de la reconciliación.

Conducida de mano maestra por Vitier, quien enriqueció la partitura con su talento de orquestador y sus aportes como pianista, la Misa cubana fue valorada aquí como un acontecimiento artístico trascendente.

Estrenada el 16 de diciembre de 1996 en la Catedral de La Habana, cuenta con 90 representaciones internacionales, una de ellas en el Vaticano.

El debut de la obra en esta capital contó con el respaldo decisivo de la Filarmónica bogotana y la Sociedad Coral Santa Cecilia, bajo la dirección del maestro Alejandro Zuleta, y tres solistas del calibre de la soprano Bárbara Llanes, la mezzosoprano María Felicia Pérez y el tenor Amaury Pérez, en una conjunción de voces en perfecta armonía con la belleza y el espíritu del concierto.

En su primera audición, en el teatro Colsubsidio, Vitier la dedicó a “la esperanza de un tiempo de paz, sin rencores, de paz para todos y para siempre”. Que la música nos acompañe en este empeño, dijo, y la Virgen nos bendiga a todos”.
