Cuando la excelencia se llama Leonel

Güines, Mayabeque, Cuba_ Cuando un guía logra que sus pupilas conquisten 5 medallas de oro, 2 de plata y 1 de bronce en un evento multideportivo, la satisfacción llega a sabiendas  de que existen muchas pistas y rutas por recorrer.

Su nombre es Leonel "El Chino" Álvarez, entrenador del equipo nacional de ciclismo femenino. Vive en Güines, a unos 52 kilómetros de la capital cubana, y vive enamorado del ciclismo.Experiencia y  voluntad lo mantienen al frente de un colectivo que acaba de conquistar el ciclismo femenino en los XXIII  Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe, con sede en Barranquilla, Colombia.

Tengo grabada en mi memoria aquella imagen al cierre de los Juegos Panamericanos de Guadalajara, México, en el 2011, las tres muchachas cubanas terminaron la prueba de ruta acaparando las tres primeras posiciones. Al llegar a la meta buscaron, aún agotadas,  al entrenador y él las recibió con brazos abiertos.

Igual resultado sucedió en mayo de 2018, fue en Argentina, el rojo, azul y blanco volvieron  a llenar de color patrio la línea de llegada. Otra vez las pupilas de “El Chino” agradecían al exigente y a la vez humano estratega del ciclismo.

En Colombia la historia comenzó a tejerse desde el primer día en el velódromo de Cali, cada vuelta, cada sprint dejanron claras las potencialidades de las cubanas, gracias al planteamiento estratégico de los entrenadores y de esa voluntad  que  extrae el máximo a las bielas.

Junto a generaciones de ciclistas cubanas Leonel “El Chino” Álvarez acumula triunfos como los que se suscitaron en Colombia, en Juegos Panamericanos, Campeonatos del Mundo, Olimpiadas y otros eventos de alto rango, convocados por la Federación Internacional de la especialidad.

Yoanka, Lisandra, Maylin, Marlys, Arlenis, Yudelmis y algunas más, saben lo que significa saborear el triunfo, colgar sobre sus hombros  los lauros  de campeonas.  Ellas representan  los sueños,  la consumación de una entrega absoluta al ciclismo protagonizada por el güinero Leonel.  Sus medallas están en cada una de estas jóvenes. Juntos seguirán allí, donde esté el reto, porque son los desafíos los que hacen crecer.

I have the image recorded forever in my memory. The same result happened in May 2018, it was in Argentina, the red, blue and white color filled the home line again. Again the pupils of "El Chino" thanked the demanding and at the same time human strategist of cycling.

In Colombia, the story began to be woven from the first day in the velodrome of Cali, each lap, each final pedaling, each sprint were making clear the potential of the Cuban, thanks to the strategic approach of the coaches and that will extract the maximum to the connecting rods.
