El cantante norteamericano, Bruce Springsteen, rindió homenaje al cantautor chileno Víctor Jara, asesinado y torturado por la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet hace 40 años, en su primer concierto en Chile.

“Si eres un músico político, Víctor Jara sigue siendo una gran expresión. Es un honor estar aquí”, dijo el “Boss”, frente aún repleto auditorio del Movistar Arena de Santiago, en el que fue su debut en Chile.

Springsteen, una leyenda del rock estadounidense conocida por su activismo y compromiso político, recordó el concierto de Amnistía Internacional en Mendoza (Argentina) en 1988, cuando Chile aún se encontraba bajo la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990).

“Conocimos (en Mendoza) a muchas familias de los desaparecidos y nos mostraron fotografías de sus seres queridos. Fue un momento que se quedó conmigo para siempre”, agregó el cantante. Como homenaje a Jara, Springsteen interpretó al final del concierto de más de tres horas, su conocida canción “Manifiesto”, un tema de los más emblemáticos dentro de la Nueva Canción Chilena, un movimiento músico-social que se desarrolló en los años 1960 hasta el comienzo de la década de 1970.

Víctor Jara fue detenido, torturado y acribillado con 44 balazos días después del golpe de Estado del 11 de septiembre de 1973 contra el socialista Salvador Allende, que derivó en una dictadura de 17 años, con más de 3.000 muertos y 38.000 torturados.

Aún sigue abierto el caso judicial que busca esclarecer las circunstancias y los responsables de su asesinato.
