Via Crucis de Kcho en el Vaticano

Alexis Leyva Machado ( Kcho ) is the first Cuban to exhibit at the Palazzo della Cancelleria , State of the Vatican City in Rome, Italy

Autenticidad, compromiso y reflexión corren por la obra del artista Alexis Leyva Machado (Kcho). Su trabajo esencialmente poético, impregnado de una visión reflexiva sobre la dimensión y origen humano en el continuo devenir del tiempo y la materia llegó, por primera vez, al Palazzo della Cancelleria de la Santa Sede, con la exposición Via Crucis.

La muestra conformada por 29 piezas entre pinturas, dibujos, esculturas e instalaciones, retoma el tema de las migraciones —recurrente en la obra del artista natural de la Isla de la Juventud— y la odisea de perseguir el sueño de una existencia mejor.

Inaugurada el pasado 4 de mayo y abierta hasta el 4 de junio, Via Crucis presenta obras que como la cruz de remos Milagro (madera, metal y soga), Via Crucis a Lampedusa, Lampedusa en el horizonte, Monumento en Lampedusa, El rapto de Europa (todas técnicas mixta sobre tela), y la que da título a la exposición, revelan el drama migratorio recurrente frente a las costas de Lampedusa y descorren el velo de las heridas permanentemente abiertas en los protagonistas de esta tragedia, de carácter global.

L’ Osservatore Romano describió la exhibición de la siguente manera: “En la obra del artista cubano no hay nada pintoresco (…) Kcho relata la zozobra de los que optan por el camino del mar para hacer un cambio en su vida. A diferencia de las obras suyas presentadas hace tres años en la Bienal de Venecia, en esta muestra la imagen de la cruz explicita la angustia en medio de barcos que naufragan en el mar”.

Mientras, el crítico Luciano Caprile explicó, en las palabras del catálogo, que “las escenas pintadas por Kcho tienen lugar en una calma alienadora, sugerida principalmente con monocromatismos. El artista trabaja a toda prisa en el papel o el lienzo como si se presionara por la urgencia de liberarse de cierta ansiedad que no le permite ningún placer contemplativo. Habla de la condenación y de la esperanza con la determinación didáctica precisa. El suyo es un grito que corta el aire y es la cruz la que alienta y destaca la conciencia del observador”.

No hay duda que en la obra de Kcho existe un sentimiento muy vivo, y tal vez ese sea el motor esencial que le permite replantearse constantemente la naturaleza del hombre. Lo más importante es que en su huella, el artista —que se convierte con esta exposición en el primer cubano que expone en el Vaticano—ha dejado muy claro su preocupación por la migración, de la cual ha manifestado que es “la esclavitud moderna”.

Sobre el título que da nombre a esta exhibición, Kcho —quien también muestra en el edificio de Arte Cubano del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de La Habana la instalación No agradezcan el silencio que al cierre de esta edición sobrepasaba las 900 personas que experimentaron la entrada a El Hueco— comentó a este diario: “La vida es un via crucis, un camino lleno de sacrificios”.
